We've learned that Hog's Back BBQ has closed down after a drama-filled few months in its formerly-Pangea location just off Route 13 near Dijon Bistro and Red Feet Wine, but the owner hopes to reopen in another Ithaca location -- perhaps the former Olivia location near East Hill Plaza -- before long. The building on Third Street where Hog's Back was operating is reportedly going into foreclosure, which could certainly have made continuing to rent the spot a dicey proposition. We'd love to see a BBQ eatery -- or, really, any eatery -- where Olivia used to be. It's a terrific, if quirky, building, and a fantastic location, especially with so many Cornell offices and residential areas nearby.

In short, they had inconsistent food, inconsistent service, theft problems, and on and on. One of the biggest complaints was that they had stopped taking credit cards but left the decals up, and didn't tell people until they were done eating that they'd have to pay in cash. Blaming this on the theft of a credit card terminal could've almost excused this for a day or two, but no longer.

glad he finally shut down
All I can say is good!He was a poor business man, I worked for him less than a week, and saw many health code violations, including but not limited to smoking while preparing food in the kitchen! Blech~gross. I then had to fight the guy to get paid.
It is sad to me that no other employee noticed such things, then again, the way that man screamed at his employees, I don't blame them to a certain point.
I honestly hope he is not allowed to re-open another restaurant, he keeps a filthy kitchen, does not wash his hands, and uses foul language within ear shot of customers.
